More food

You might think that I’m obsessed with food, given the number of posts dedicated to the subject. And you would probably be right. I love good food and I love trying to create new dishes at home. Don’t get me wrong, I love going out and eating fabulous food that someone else has prepared as well, but there’s something very satisfying with taking the time, in our rushed, overscheduled world, to create something handmade and delicious. Because of the aforementioned rushing and overscheduling, most of my creative cooking takes place on the weekends.

Again, the pizza below is not a very recent creation, maybe two weeks ago? The dough is from a market in Little Italy, the sauce is homemade and I put artichokes, onions, sausage and anchovies on one quarter for Mike. I cannot embrace the idea of fish on my pizza. I’ve tried people. It’s not happening. No hate mail, please.

This is my first souffle - out a Bon Appetit (please excuse the dearth of accents in that sentence) cookbook. It was really simple, containing eggs, goat cheese, flour, salt and some herbs. And it didn’t deflate out soon as it came out of the oven, like it does in cartoons, which somehow I was expecting.  It was very light and satisfying. Since I actually followed the recipe this time, rather than improvising or adding more herbs or spices, that will be the one thing I will change for next time. I tend to like my foods more herbey and spicey than most recipes yield.

Okay, enough with the food. I hope everyone had a great 4th of July weekend. Happy Birthday America.

You’ve tried people on your pizza? Sorry - lame joke but I couldn’t help myself…or didn’t want to help myself :) I am in awe of your souffle - looks gorgeous…….

I’m working on baklava this week - easy maybe but the last time I made it (when I was 12) I totally ruined it.

I am moving into your blog - what are we eating next?

You should totally post your souffle on the PL site!

    S - I reread what I wrote and laughed. Nice catch. :)

How did the baklava turn out?

I think this week is squid ink linguine with some sort of butter sauce. I also have to find a way to use all of the basil that I’m growing. Oh and carrot soup, an amazingly easy recipe.

I’ll go over to the PL site and post the souffle recipe. :)
